RESEARCHER'S STATEMENT

Your e-portfolio showcases your work in the course, so your audience will expect to know who you are. To help introduce yourself, craft a "researcher's statement" that clarifies who you are as a writer and researcher. Think of this as your "About Me" page where visitors of your website learn about the owner and creator of this portfolio. They want to know what writing and research looks like for you, so you might reflect on the everyday kinds of writing and research you do and/or the academic and professional kinds of writing and research you will have to do here at UCF and after graduation.

I have been teaching writing for 11 years, and prior to that, I was a professional writer for 17 years in the Office of the President at the University of Central Florida. During those years, I wrote many different types of documents for a variety of purposes and audiences (speeches, reports, correspondence, website content, responses to complaints, and more). Most of those documents were high-stakes in that anything coming out of the president's office is of great importance. When teaching, I write assignment instructions, grading rubrics, feedback to students, syllabi, and other things related to teaching and learning. As an individual outside of this academic institution, I write texts, emails, social media posts, letters to politicians about policies, grocery lists, and other smaller-stakes pieces. This website is a model for my students in freshman composition 2, who are required to design and populate an e-portfolio website of their own each semester to showcase their own writing.
